First Pitch by Dunwoody City Council Member Terry Nall!

Council Member Nall throws out the first pitch on Saturday, March 28, 2015

Thank You City of Dunwoody!

Dunwoody City Council Member at Large, Terry Nall, was on hand to throw out the first pitch at the 1 pm game on Saturday.  Dunwoody Senior Baseball asked Council Member Nall to have the first pitch honor as our way of saying Thanks! to the City for their support of our program.

Over the past three years the City has funded a number of projects including a redo of the entire Upper Field, raising the playing area around home plate a full eight inches. The City also enabled us to finally retire the much-maligned Dome on the Lower Field last summer and replace it with a first-class backstop and net system - most high schools don't have it this good!  And our parking lot is now a pleasure to drive through, thanks again to the City of Dunwoody.

Council Member Nall has been a big supporter of our program so it was good it have him out today. Below are additional pictures of Council Member Nall and John Crawford, DSB Senior Vice President. John formally thanked Council Member Nall and the City before the assembled teams and helped him warm up before hand.

DSB Baseball Quiz #1

Answers

1. There are anywhere from 7 to 23 ways to get on base, depending on who you listen to.  Click here for a sampling of lists of how to get on base.

2. False.  Earned runs and RBI do not need to be the same, although they can be.  For example, if a runner reaches base on an error and the next runner drives him in there is an RBI but the run is unearned.  A runner that reaches base on an error is NEVER an earned run.

3. False. Reaching base on an error does NOT count as a hit.  If you had a single, a double and reached on an error in 3 plate appearances you were 2-3 for the day - good job!  Reached on an error is scored as an out because that's what it should have been. Your batting average does not go up because the fielder made an error.

DING DONG THE DOME IS DEAD!

Say Goodbye to the Lower Field Dome

The Lower Field Dome, a fixture at Dunwoody Park since 1975, is gone.  After almost 40 years of foul balls raining back down on batters, catchers and umpires, the Lower Field is being re-fitted with a backstop and netting, just like a real ballfield.

This has enabled us to put seating behind home plate and to open access to the third base side of the field from the first base side.  You will no longer have to walk up and over.

Many thanks to the City of Dunwoody for making this project possible.  Please take the time to tell you local City Council representative and the mayor how much we appreciate the support.  A special thanks to Brent Walker, City of Dunwoody Parks Director for his help in getting this done and to Ken Langley for his time as a volunteer to manage the project.
